Of Ozieri, in the district called Logudoro, on the chain of the Marghine, which runs to Macomer, and, farther S., in the region called Barbargia, the Punta Bianca Spina, the highest summit of the chain of Gennargentu (6016 ft.).
It is represented either by a spina interna or by a spina externa, or by both, or they join to form a spina communis which is often very large and sometimes ends in a bifurcation.
The pubis consists of a short anterior portion (spina pubica or pectineai process, homologous with the prepubic process of Dinosaurs) and the long and slender pubis proper (equivalent to the processus lateralis pubis of most reptiles).
MESITEs.-Without basipterygoid processes, and with large spina interna.
Galli.-With large spina communis, and with large processus obliqui.
Opisthocomi.-Arboreal, with long spina externa; without basipterygoid processes.
Without spina interna.
Sub-order Limicolae.-Nidifugous, without spina interna sterni.
CoRACIAE.-Either (I) with long spina externa sterni, Coraciidae, rollers, Old World.
Alcedinidae, kingfishers, cosmopolitan or (2) with long spina communis.
Spina externa sterni large, spina interna absent.
Besides the cathedral, the baptistery and the famous leaning tower, the city possesses several notable churches, as the Renaissance church of the Tuscan order of St Stephen, built in 1562 from plans by Vt,sari; San Niccolo, with a four-storeyed tower (1230), built by Niccola Pisano, and the tomb of John of Swabia, the parricide; Santa Caterina (1262); Santa Maria della Spina, in the Italo-Gothic style, built in 1230 and restored in 1872; San Sepolchro, erected in 1150 by Diotisalvi; San Francesco, with frescoes byTaddeo Gaddi; and the basilica of San Michele (Io18).
