The Oracle had given him nothing, and he didn't feel able to sit still and drink tea with Daniela, the headmistress of the order of nuns who managed this Sanctuary.
The door opened to reveal Daniela, the headmistress, a severe-looking woman wearing the brown robes of the convent.
"You don't even like tea," Daniela accused him finally.
Daniela folded her hands in her lap, her irritation at him replaced by interest.
"If Daniela finds you here, she'll flip out," he said without turning.
Daniela shook her head.
Daniela sipped her tea.
"That's probably why she told me about it," Daniela smiled.
"You're welcome," Daniela said.
Daniela observed her for a moment then replaced the cup with a glass filled with the alcohol.
Daniela refilled the glass without asking, and Deidre drank more.
Daniela didn't seem completely insane, but who else said things like that?
She heard Daniela outside the dining hall, lecturing someone.
"Why do you insist on giving our women alcohol?" he demanded of Daniela, who stood beside him.
"If you didn't bring them here either half-eaten by demons or thinking they're dead, they wouldn't need alcohol," Daniela snapped.
"You were banned from here," Daniela sounded angry.
"No, you're not dead," Daniela answered with a sharp look at Rhyn.
At the strong flavor, she glanced at Daniela, who winked.
Daniela slapped him on the back of the head.
"Rhyn," Daniela said with a sigh.
Daniela said she was scared.
She'd seen a handful of nuns yesterday, and only Daniela spoke to her.
Daniela had told her the kitchens would serve at any time of day.
She understood why Daniela kept feeding her brandy the night before.
Daniela said they passed through it on their way to the island.
Daniela knew me and there was a man on the beach when we landed.
Daniela hefted her to her feet.
The only one who seemed willing to talk to her before being shushed by Daniela was Rhyn.
Daniela shook her head again and smiled.
As if on cue, the flushed cook returned for her plate, and Daniela ordered the brandy and two glasses.
As if sensing her distress, Daniela poured her another two shots of brandy.
Daniela filled her glass with two more shots and smiled.
"Sire, you've been warned," Daniela said in her crisp tone.
Whatever Daniela said to him after she fled worked, and Katie didn't see him for the rest of the day.
Daniela called him wild.
Daniela said this was what spurred their fighting.
Daniela seems to think it was preordained.
Daniela just inside the entrance, and her normally calm face took on an expression of sudden irritation.
Daniela cried, and flew past her toward the rocks.
Curiosity drew her to the gate again, where tiny Daniela was animated and angry as she stood between Rhyn and Kris.
She gathered her things and searched for Daniela --or anyone --but no one was around.
"Daniela," he greeted her, and Rhyn recognized the leader of the Sanctuary that had taken care of Katie weeks before.
He allowed Daniela to enter first and then followed.
Daniela.s little legs moved fast, and she was across the courtyard while Kris stared toward the room where Rhyn assumed his mate was.
Daniela led them to the men.s wing, where one sweaty, bloodied Immortal was standing outside of Sasha.s room while the other stood guard over Jade, who was hogtied in the middle of the small courtyard around which the men.s wing was situated.
Daniela.s lips were pursed and her frown deep.
Daniela crossed her arms and gave a stiff nod.
Daniela stood where they left her, frowning fiercely.
"I want all of you out," Daniela whispered, horrified.
Daniela, go get a room ready for Iliana and send Toby and Hannah to the cafeteria.
He could look straight into the courtyard of the men.s wing, and the furious Daniela standing in the middle staring at him.
