As a part of the plans of the national government for reclamation of land in the arid states, imposing schemes have been formulated for such work in Colorado, including a great reservoir on the Gunnison.

About thirty other government projects were taken - in hand under the new Reclamation Service, in some cases involving highly interesting engineering problems, as in the Uncompahgre Project in Colorado.

It was probably originally a fishing-village, but with the reclamation of the surrounding morasses, e.g.
